I did not enjoy this build at all and if you’re a builder that’s dead-set on accuracy I can not recommend this kit.
The RM Strike is one of my GOAT kits, despite being 10 years old it still holds up quite well. My only real complaints would be the ABS frame and I also don’t like the way the side skirts attach to the torso.
The Ootori Pack on the other hand though is an absolute dog to paint. I’d say that 95% of all the parts of this thing requires masking:
- ALL the yellow trims on the wings
- The red trim on one of the cannons
- The hilt of the sword comes with this oddly part separated design that still needs masking (red/white)
- The red trim on the fuel(?) tanks
- The missiles come molded completely in white when they are depicted to have both black and yellow trims. AND there are 12 of these things!
- The red thrusters on the back of the rudders
- The black stripe on the fin
All of this ended up dragging the build to 45+ hours and by the time it ended I was pretty damn glad it was over.
I used a combination of Flaming Snow and EVO Studio (SIMP) decals for this build, the EVO Studio ones had all of the standard markings while the Flaming Snow had pink versions of the text that would normally be in a grey colour.
Painting
Dark Red – White primer, Mr Color Russet + Wine Red + bit of Cobalt Blue base coat. Pink + bit of fluro pink + bit of white iis used to highlight, then original mix used to blend over
Primary pink – White primer, followed by Mr Color Pink + white base coat. White + Gaianotes CM Pink used for highlight, finally a very light coat of Gaianotes Flesh Pink is sprayed over.
Pink – Mr Color Pink + Gaia CM Lilac + Gaia CM pink, White + base mix used for highlight, then a very light coat of Gaianotes Flesh misted over the highlight to bring some warmth back. In hindsight I wish I could have made this pink a little more faded and a bit more peachy.
Grey – Mr Color GX Black + Neutral Grey, then Neutral Grey + Black for highlight, original mix used to blend back.
Sword Blue – MS Light Blue + Azure Blue + bit of Pink base coat, white added for highlight, then base mix used to blend back.
Grey – Mr Color 306 + bit of Purple + bit of Intermediate Blue. White added for highlights, original mix used to blend.
Internals – Gaianotes Starbright Iron + bit of Black
