HG Alteisen build retrospective

I was initially over the moon when the Alt was announced, after many years of suffering Kotobukiya SRW releases I thought I would finally get a stress-free experience on one of my favourite Personal Trooper design. After all, the Gespsenst was a pretty easy build right?

Boy was I wrong.

I would say Bandai’s take is only a marginal improvement on Koto’s version. It definitely poses better, but there are still seam lines everywhere, detail painting and many small parts.

Here’s the list of details that kinda need to be painted:

  • Yellow vents on the shoulders
  • The little “avocados” on the legs
  • The red on the front skirts
  • The cockpit hatch(?)
  • The bullets on the revolver
  • The red stripes on the machine cannons
  • The triangle on the claymore cover
  • The white trim on the top of the shoulders
  • The yellow inside the verniers

The thruster fins on the back are also hollow and lacking of any detail on the inside, it’s almost unbearably ugly and is screaming for some pla-plate. I would definitely at least paint them grey or something just to make it less noticeable.

Much like a Frame Arms girl, all the limbs are part sandwiches with seamlines. Weirdly enough, they don’t go straight down the middle but are offset to the side, if they were going with this route why not make it stepped or hide it with some raised edge?

Anyway I ended up sealing the seams on both forearms, this involved chopping up parts so they could be inserted after painting.
