2021 – The year in review

The end of 2021 has come, and so has my yearly recap of sorts. I’m kind caught off guard and writing this at the 11th hour so please bear me!

This year was a bit of a mixed bag for me. It got off to a great start, culminating around July when I relaunched my Patreon page. Then August hit me like a Grav Hammer – my contract of employment ended prematurely and I had to search for a new job. That alone took a whole month, and to this day I still haven’t quite recovered the momentum I had before.

But in the past few months life has somewhat gotten back to normal and I’ve managed to try a whole bunch of new stuff, including streaming both Gunpla and games, as well as rebooting my Etsy store.

Gaming

This year was a bit of a return to games for me. Despite managing to get a PS5 / Series X this year, most of my time was spent on the PC, having a new found appreciation for the masterrace while finally understanding the disdain for the Epic Games Store. I started streaming games, managing to beat Super Robot Wars Impact, SRW 30th, and replaying the entire Halo saga with my friends.

Other notable games I remember playing are VIIlage, Great Ace Attorney, Subnautica and Below Zero.

Gunpla

While I spent all year working from home again, I did not have quite as productive year as 2020, only finishing 10 builds. I hit a huge snag during August, where I had to take time out to search for a new job and lost quite a bit of momentum. I also got sidetracked doing photoshoots, which at this point end up taking more time than actually building the kit itself.

There was no build that I enjoyed building the most, but the Wargreymon was definitely the least, with the excessive number of seamlines that need to be dealt with.

Competitions

This year I entered 2 competitions, managing to land 4th place at the Rise of Gunpla 2021 Competition with my Wing Zero.

2022

Bandai have already announced some pretty cool things that I’m looking forward to next year. We have the MG Virtue, GINN, 1/100 Calamity Gundam and a potential slew of SRW kits in the works. Kits that I’m looking forward to working on include:

I’m really looking to finally finishing off the 00 team as well as completing off the quartet of ZAKU Warriors with Rey’s White Phantom.

Gaming-wise, I can’t for the life of me remember anything being released next year but I’m just really looking forward to being able to play the Halo Infinite campaign co-op.
