Yes definitely! If you went and zoomed in very close on the above image you’d probably see that the top coat is in fact slightly grainy.
I suggest testing the top coat mixture on spare parts first as can be a bit tricky to get the mixture ratio to the right level of matte/glossiness you’re looking for. Also remember to do light coats and never spray top coat until the part looks “wet” as it will cause frosting.
It does look a bit grainy, but from the image it’s hard to tell if it’s because of the topcoat or if there’s some orange peeling in the paint underneath. Sometimes I end up with the same texture and I’m still always personally learning how to paint a smoother finish.
Either way, it looks fine but there’s always room for improvement (even for myself).
Hi, I’m currently working on a black zaku and I’m having a lil bit of trouble getting the smooth finish that you got here (superb work btw).
Can you advise the steps for you to do the top coat of this kit?
This was top coated with Future Floor Polish mixed with some Tamiya Flat Base.
Alternatively you can mix some Tamiya Flat Base with some Tamiya Flat Clear, thin it and use that for top coat.
Thanks for the reply. I’ll give it a try. Do you think pointing harsh light on the kit would highlight the unevenness of the top coat?

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the feedback. Would you think that it’s as rough as this ?
