Today at the 53rd Shizuoka Hobby Show, Sunrise announced that a sequel to Gundam Build Fighters was in the planning stages!
In addition an ‘urgent news’ flash on the Gundam Build Fighters website appeared, confirming this.
After the massive interest that the first series (re)generated for Gundam, I guess the temptation was too much for Sunrise to stop there. Okay seriously, this news makes me really happy.

As for the plot? There’s nothing yet, but here’s my crazy prediction…
At the end of the first series Mashita and Nine can be seen selling Gunpla (or at least imitation) in Aria. So my theory is that somehow Gunpla takes off in the other world and they have their own Gunpla battles going on. Eventually it becomes big enough that Aria decides to challenge the Earth to Gunpla Battle (maybe even Mortal Kombat style). Maybe Reiji will even be a mystery bad guy for the first bit of the series?

new contenders, more countries (for pete’s sake, somebody put a pinoy on this series!), and the reveal that aria is actually a backwards space colony like moon moon from ZZ gundam.
suprised they actually went ahead and set S2 in the works already.
