- Exclusive Collector’s Edition Steelbook
- Wearable Replicas of Nathan Drake’s Buckle and Ring with Necklace Strap
- Nathan Drake statue by SlideShow Collectables
- Traveling Chest Packaging
This also gives us a good chance to compare it with the Explorer’s Edition, which I unboxed earlier this month.
The Collector’s Edition comes in a classy black box. Upon opening it, we can see that it’s pretty well secured with two foam rings that hold it in place inside.
Traveller’s Chest Packaging
The traveller’s chest packaging looks pretty nice from afar, but close up and you’ll come to realize that it looks very flat and kinda cheap, much like a low poly object from a 90’s game. The chest itself is made out of a really hard cardboard, similar to that of hardcover books.
On the inside, everything is presented very well, with each item having it’s own place in the box. There’s a slot on the door where the game steelbook sits, a drawer for the belt and ring each, and a space where the statue sits.
Ring and Belt Buckle
The ring and belt buckle are pretty much identical to their Explorer’s Edition counterparts, so nothing new here. They are presented quite nicely though, having their own container boxes lined wih a velvet like material.
Steelbook
The steelbook is exclusive to the US Collector’s edition and has Sir Francis’ ring embossed on one side. On the back, there’s a symbol which I think has something to do with Solomon, but can’t remember. Inside there’s art of Drake striking a pose while the Desert Village gets blown up behind him.
Nathan Drake statue
Here’s where things start getting a little interesting. You might expect the statue from the Explorer Edition to be the same as the US Collector’s Edition, but that isn’t the case here. The molds used appear to be the same, but there are some differences, at least in the two that I have here.
You can see here that the US Drake has a better paint job on the face and skin tones, using a much better colour than the EE Drake. The end result is that US Drake looks much closer to in-game, but the problem is still the incorrect mold. The rest of the details such as the scarf and bullet belt are pretty much the same. Check out more shots in the gallery below.
The bottom of the base is also different. This could be the reason why the 2 statues aren’t exactly the same, perhaps they came from 2 different factories? Figurines are pretty hit and miss anyway, as 2 different people painting the same mold could give vastly different results.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think the US Collector’s Edition of Uncharted 3 is excellent. Even though the traveller’s chest isn’t as nice and there’s no DLC, at $99 USD it’s much better value and has better presentation when compared to the Explorer Edition.
Man, that statue makes me hard (as a rock) !!
