So I’ve had a good 24 hours with the Uncharted 3 beta. All I can say is “This ain’t Uncharted 2”. Some of the tricks from the old game are gone, along with new features make it a familiar game yet subtly different. Here are some notes from my time playing.
Note: All of the below apply as of Version 1.00.635.
Movement speed is slower than UC2, but sprinting is faster than the old speed. Sprinting takes a while to actually remember it’s there and getting used to it…but is essential for survival.
You get ‘custom loadouts’ now, which means you can start with guns other than the AK. At level 1 you have access to the AK, FAL (called the G-MAL in UC3), or Dragon Sniper. For the sidearm only the pistol is available at the start. By around level 10 you unlock the Autopistol, which is like the Mac-10/UZI from UC2.
Buddy system is really useful for spawning in a closer location. Sometimes you’ll be lucky enough to spawn close enough to help him take out someone. The hi-five thing is cool for farming medals, but is hella dangerous, since sometimes it take a game a while to register it, or the positioning is off etc.
The godlike tracking of run & gun with pistols has been nerfed. No more pistol whipping for me 🙁
The pistol takes about 6-7 body shots to kill as opposed to the 4-5 in UC2. In order words, it’s kinda sucky and hard to use now.
UC3 AK47 has a slower rate of fire than the UC2 one. BUT! Holy shit @ it’s blindfire accuracy. At close range you can literally mow down anyone with it, and you don’t even have to aim. Godlike! At level 12 you can unlock a mod for it which can increase it’s firing rate, closer to what it was in UC2.
When aiming the Dragon Sniper, it automatically scopes in. There are 2 levels of zoom. Sniping feels very much like Modern Warfare now :(. Two body shots to kill, 1 head shot. With pistols being not so good anymore, I’m probably not be going to be running Dragon Sniper much.
T Bolt Sniper Rifle is a new weapon, which has to reload after each shot, but kills in one hit. Has 5 shots. Worth picking up for it’s 1 shotting power.
Power Plays seem to activate every X minutes if one team is 6 or more kills behind the other. Here’s what some of them do:
Exposed – Losing team can see the locations of the winning team
VIP – One person on the winning team is designated as the VIP. Killing the VIP nets like at least 2 kills, it’s can definately turn the tide of the game if it’s down to the wire
Curse – I’ve only had this one once, but holy shit, is it bad. Everyone on the winning team is ‘cursed’, all the character models look like skeletons and have enemy flags on them. And friendly fire is turned on.
Double damage – losing team deals double damage to the winning team.
I’ll leave you with these 2 videos. First one is an airfield map which is one of my earlier runs. Second one is the Chateau after I started running the AK for the LOLs.
Next time – Patch 1.01
