Fallout New Vegas Collector’s Edition Unboxing

Kicking off what is a busy 2 weeks of unboxings is the Fallout New Vegas Collector’s Edition.

I actually almost missed out on this Collector’s Edition due to my lazyness in preordering.  I instead had to order it from Gamestop USA, which ended up at around $115 AUD due to the strength of the Aussie dollar, $35 cheaper than what it was here locally.

Collector’s Edition includes:

• “Lucky 7” poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.

• A fully customised Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game. Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for New Vegas!

• A recreation of the game’s highly coveted “Lucky 38” platinum chip.

• A hard cover graphic novel “All Roads”, that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas. “All Roads” was written by Chris Avellone, the game’s creative director, and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.

• ‘The Making of Fallout: New Vegas’ DVD. This documentary DVD will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation and discuss topics such as story, setting, legacy of the Fallout franchise and more.

The box comes with a cardboard slipcase.  Sliding it off reveals the box, which is made out of really good textured cardboard, kinda like the ones board games (the actual board) are made out of.

Opening the box reveals the hardcover comic right at the top.

Under the comic is the rest of the swag, as well as my platinum chip, which seems to have displaced itself on the way over to Australia.

The rest of the poker chips come in a little plastic bag.

The chips are made in exactly the same way as normal casino chips. They are all unique and supposed to represent each of the different casinos found on the New Vegas strip.  Excellent quality.

The platinum 38 chip is much larger and much heavier when compared to the rest of the chips.  It’s also metallic instead of the usual plastic.

The Making of New Vegas comes in a little cardboard slip.  I bought the PS3 version of the game and note the making of disc is Blu-ray as well.

Finally, there’s a deck of playing cards inside.  They’ve included the rules for ‘Caravan’, which is a original card game created for New Vegas.

Overall, the contents and pricing is similar to the Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition.  At $20 USD more than the standard edition, it’s a pretty good deal if you live in the States.  The box is awesome quality as are the poker chips, but I can’t shake the feeling that there should be MORE stuff included in this collector’s edition.

If you live in Australia though, where this Edition costs almost double the game itself, it’s a pretty hard ask.
