After the failure which was Fable II Limited Edition, be thankful that this Limited Collector’s Edition actually exists! But hey, it’s Peter Molyneux, so I’m not suprised it takes him a few games to actually deliver on his promises 😛
Limited Collector’s Edition includes:
- Unique packaging: Distinctive box created in the likeness of a book from “Fable III”
- A new quest: Uncover the mystery of the haunted forests of Silverpines and earn the legendary sword, Wolfsbane, deadly against wolves and balverines.
- Exclusive location: Unlock a new region, ideal for settling down with a family and discovering new treasures.
- “Fable III” playing cards: Created by Lionhead, these cards depict every type of character in “Fable III,” including Heroes, royals, rebels and villains from across Albion and beyond.
- Guild Seal Coin: The coin features a Good side (blue) and Evil side (red) to assist players in making critical decisions that will impact the fate of the world forever.
- A new dog breed: Renowned for its loyalty, the Boxer is a brave canine companion worthy of greatest Queens and Kings.
- One unique outfit: Unearth one male and female outfit from the mysterious, faraway land of Aurora, a new destination in your “Fable III” adventures.
Unboxing after the jump.
Front and back view of the cardboard slip which holds the book.
From the side you can see the spine of the ‘book’ , which already looks very promising.
The book case is made out of a fake leather/plastic type material.
There’s a magnetic tab holding the book together.
Inside is the game, which fits quite snugly.
Here’s the front and back views of the actual game itself. And like the Alan Wake/Halo Reach Limited Editions, it comes in a black, non-standard 360 game case as well.
The first 2 are shots of codes that come in the Collector’s edition. You get an extra quest, some extra clothes and a quest. The 2 codes on the right are ones which EB gave to me for preordering the game.
The inside of the book is made out of a red felt material, which gives it a kind of royal feeling if you ask me.
Anyway if you didn’t watch the Lionhead video unboxing, you might be wondering at this point, ‘Where the hell is the rest of my shit?!”
Well, instead of having the rest of the content underneath the game, they decided to stash it in a secret compartment which can be accessed by’pulling’ the bottom tab downwards.
There’s a red cloth tab which you use to pull out the tray holding the rest of the CE contents.
The final 2 items are of course, the pack of cards, and the guild seal coin.
The coin has a good and evil side, so if you’ve just happened to spill some acid or got horrendously burned on one half of your face and are in of a good/evil coin, you are just in luck!
Unlike the Fallout New Vegas set of cards, only the suites have special artwork on them, which are characters from the game itself.
While there’s no artwork for the rest of the cards, they still look pretty good, with an almost unique look to each of them.
And finally here’s the entire contents of the Limited Collector’s Edition in one shot.
So here are my thoughts on this CE. As the price and idea of this CE is similar to the Alan Wake CE, I’ll use that as a basis for a comparison. The box/book itself is a really great idea which they managed to pull off. After getting over the box though, I wasn’t quite as impressed with the cards and coin, and I feel the inclusions just aren’t as ‘meaty’ as the Alan Wake stuff. I also don’t quite like the emphasis these days on having Collector’s Edition DLCs, which I feel don’t really add that much value. I would have much prefered a Making of DVD or a soundtrack instead of the cards/coin.
But regardless, I’d say that despite the lack of contents I’m still pretty happy thanks to the awesome box.
Purchased from EB Games at $128 AUD. Cheapest standard edition locally $79 AUD.
I know I was damn surprised by the size of the thing when I went to pick it up. I didn’t know what was in it, going in.
