MG Strike Freedom: WIP Part 3

Progress, progress!

Fair bit of progress this weekend.

More after the jump.

I managed to get the internal frame, “Gundam Blue” and dark blue parts painted.   The frame was standard operating procedure, black base coat followed by black + neutral gray.  Took about 2 hours.

The dark blue parts took about 5 hours, and after finishing up, I noticed that there was alot of dust on the wings unfortunately.  This happened with my God Gundam and I realised that it was due to leaving the parts in the open (indoors) overnight after priming.  I need to remember to dust them before I start painting next time.  Quite disappointed with the wings as the standard isn’t quite up to the rest of the kit.

The Gundam blue parts didn’t take nearly as long.   Mixture used was something like 45% Cobalt Blue + 45% Bright Blue + 10% Fluro Pink.  The Fluro Pink gives the blue extra shine which makes it more appealing.  White was added for shading.  These parts didn’t take nearly as long to paint, only requiring about 2.5 hours.

Rifle masking turned out better than I could hope for

The grey internal frame looks so much better

I’m using the waterslide Gundam Decals (that are sold seperately, damn you Bandai).   Totally Ka-in it up!  I have a bottle of Mr Mask Softener, but it seems to cause weird stains after applying the decal, so I’ve stopped using it.

And so, after about 20 hours of work, I’m nearly done.  This kit will definately be done sometime this week, and here’s what’s left:

  • Decals on skirts, wings and dragoons
  • Panel lining the head
  • Painting gray parts
  • Painting red parts
  • Topcoat
