North East China Family

302 Flinders Ln, Melbourne

So it seems that there was actually a dumpling place in the city that I actually hadn’t tried yet.   Upon learning of this I quickly rushed out in order to rectify this.

For starters, this place isn’t even remotely close to Chinatown, which is why I probably haven’t bumped into it before.  At the corner of Flinder’s Lane and Elizabeth St, it’s the last place in Melbourne you’d expect to bump into a dumpling restaurant.

The dumpling selection on the menu doesn’t have as much variety as the Big 2, which is David & Camy’s dumplings or Chinatown Dumplings.

So for my first time here, I decided to get the fried pork and cabbage dumpling.

This was like $9 for 15 dumplings I think.  In terms of taste they weren’t as flavoursome as either Camy’s or Chinatown Dumplings, and more expensive too!  We didn’t even end up finishing them.

Actually wanted to get the steamed ones as well, but since me and my missus weren’t going to eat 30 dumplings by ourselves, we got Fried Rice with Egg as well.   I’ve had a strange craving for fried rice lately.

This cost around $8, and it was just the average run of the mill fried rice.  Just totally average in every way.  Could probably do alot better for $8 somewhere else.

Anyway, in terms of value and taste, New East China Family doesn’t come close to the Big 2 in my opinion.  Go to Chinatown for your dumpling needs instead!
